Maine is a great state to live in for a wealth of reasons.

One of the top reasons is its impressive quality of life. Maine is safe, beautiful, and full of kind, good-natured people. It’s safe to say we’re lucky to live and work in such a wonderful state.

Further proof of this comes from a recent study analyzing the best places for working moms. And—surprise, surprise—Maine ranks near the top.

The Pine Tree State performed well in this year’s report, earning the title of the 5th best state in the nation for working moms. All Mainers should take a bow—this is definitely a ranking to be proud of.

WalletHub gave Maine a score of 62.31 out of a possible 100 points. The scoring system is based on three major categories: Child Care, Professional Opportunities, and Work-Life Balance. These were further broken down into 17 subcategories to provide as much detail as possible. You can read more about the methodology [here].

Maine Ranked Very Highly in Childcare in Recent Report

Maine’s category rankings were especially strong in childcare. The Pine Tree State ranked 2nd in the entire country, just behind Massachusetts. This is a highly encouraging development. The data clearly shows that Maine is making significant progress when it comes to the availability, affordability, and quality of education at the child care level.

Professional opportunities for working moms was another strong category for Maine, with the state earning an overall ranking of 9th. It's heartwarming to see that the workforce offers plenty of opportunities for moms to work and advance in whatever field they’re in.

The lowest ranking came in the work-life balance category, but even that was quite solid. Maine finished with a ranking of 13th. Let’s be honest: we could all use a better work-life balance, so for Maine to place that high means we’re clearly doing something right.

It probably comes as no surprise to see Maine ranked so highly in this report. The state prides itself on being inclusive in every way, and that certainly includes working moms, a group that plays a vital role in Maine’s economy. Like any other group, working moms contribute significantly to our society, so it’s essential to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed.

New England is a Wonderful Region for Working Moms

Maine was joined by many of its New England neighbors near the top of WalletHub’s report. In fact, every single New England state ranked within the top 15. Here’s how they finished:

1. Massachusetts
2. Connecticut
3. Rhode Island
7. Vermont
15. New Hampshire

That’s some seriously dominant performance by the region, and I’m sure the moms appreciate it.
