Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 101 calls for service this past week in Aroostook County and surrounding areas. Here is the Troop’s weekly report:

Incident Type: SCAM Date: 2/05/2018 Town: SMYRNA Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint is investigating a scam where the victim has lost approximately $1700.00. The victim went to purchase an item from eBay and during the sale the seller stated they were not capable of accepting Pay Pal or a credit card and asked the victim to obtain $1700 worth of pre-paid eBay cards. The victim purchased the cards and then provided the “seller” with the pin on the back of each card. It was later discovered by the seller that this is a scam. Cpl. Quint is currently working with the victim regarding this incident.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 2/06/2018 Town: MAPLETON Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque stopped a vehicle in Mapleton for not displaying a valid state inspection certificate. During the stop, he discovered the male driver had a suspended driver’s license and had illegally attached registration plates to the vehicle that belonged on another. The man admitted to falsely attaching the plates and told Tr. Levesque that he previously owned the vehicle for the displayed plates but it since has been sold. He purposely put the plates on the vehicle he was driving knowing it was unlawful. The man was issued a criminal summons for Operating After Suspension and for False Attachment of Plates. The vehicle was towed form the roadway.

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 2/06/2018 Town: MONTICELLO Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint is currently investigating the theft of 250 gallons of kerosene that was stolen from a camp in Monticello. The suspect(s) went to the outside tank, cut the fuel line, and siphoned off the fuel. Cpl. Quint is working to develop evidence/leads with this incident.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL TRAFFIC SUMMONS Date: 2/06/2018 Town: MAPLETON Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque stopped a vehicle for speeding in Mapleton. During the stop, he observed a large crack in the vehicle’s windshield, an expired inspection certificate from 2016, and could not provide evidence of insurance. Tr. Levesque also noted the vehicle registration was expired by 282 days. The woman was issued a traffic summons for the inspection violation and for failing to provide proof of insurance. She was issued a criminal summons for operating a vehicle with an expired registration greater than 150 days.

Incident Type: WARRANT ARREST Date: 2/06/2018 Town: SHERMAN Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams was conducting a warrant check on a male in Sherman. Tr Adams saw the male run into his house as he turned in the driveway, Tr Adams told a female at the house to tell the male to come out because there was a warrant. The female went in the house and told the male to come out, which he did. Tr Adams transported him to ACJ.

Incident Type: SUSPENDED REGISTRATION Date: 2/07/2018 Town: EAGLE LAKE Trooper: TR. DESROSIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier stopped a vehicle for an inspection violation. During the stop, Tr. Desrosier learned the vehicle had a suspended registration. Tr. Desrosier issued the vehicle owner a criminal summons for operating with a suspended registration.

Incident Type: TRAFFIC SUMMONS Date: 2/07/2018 Town: EAGLE LAKE Trooper: TR. DESROSIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier stopped a tractor trailer pulling an over-sized logging trailer. The driver did not have the proper flags, working lights, and was not registered. Tr. Desrosier issued the truck owner summonses for the violations and had him remove the truck from the roadway.

Incident Type: ASSAULT Date: 2/07/2018 Town: ISLAND FALLS Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint investigated a report of an assault that took place in Island Falls. The 67-year-old man making the complaint stated a vehicle pulled out in front of him on the roadway. A short time later the man said he saw the same vehicle at a local gas station and confronted the driver. The two men exchanged words and before it became physical, the garage owner separated the two men. The complainant said he was going to pull over and was using his turn signal. At the last moment, he changed his mind and kept driving and that’s when the vehicle pulled in front of him. The assault complaint was unfounded.

Incident Type: OUI/OAS/ VIOL OF PROTECTION ORDER/ WARRANT ARREST Date: 2/09/2018 Town: CARY PLT Trooper: TR. PESCITELLI/ SGT FULLER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Pescitelli took a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver heading North on Route 1 in Cary. When he arrived in the area he saw a vehicle that had struck a snow bank and was being operated in the wrong lane. Tr. Pescitelli initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and when he walked up to the vehicle he saw a female in the passenger seat who appeared to be overdosing. An ambulance was called and the female was transported. During the course of the investigation it was learned that the male operator was Operating under the Influence, Suspended, and also in Violation of a protection order against the female that had been transported. There were two other occupants in the vehicle. Once of them attempted to provide a false name to conceal her true identity because of a warrant, she was promptly arrested after after being warned about the consequences of giving a false name. The other male passenger was released from the scene.

Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 2/09/2018 Town: BRIDGEWATER Trooper: TR. SYLVIA Brief Synopsis: Tr. Silvia arrested a Bridgewater man after he had been indicted by the Aroostook County Grand Jury earlier in the morning. A warrant for the man’s arrest had been obtained after the grand jury proceedings. The warrant was sealed and the subject was arrested without incident and transported to jail.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 2/10/2018 Town: WESTFIELD Trooper: TR. CASAVANT Brief Synopsis: In the early morning hours of 2/10/2018 Tr. Casavant was on patrol in Westfield when he spotted a northbound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 1. Tr. Casavant observed the vehicle on radar at 108 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The Presque Isle man was charged with Criminal Speed and Violating Conditions of Release. The man was on bail for prior arrests.

Incident Type: THEFT/ASSAULT Date: 2/10/2018 Town: BENEDICTA Trooper: TR. SAUCIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier investigate a suspicious call that came into the Barracks early Saturday morning. A female caller reported vague details about an assault, but then ended the call. Tr. Saucier located the woman and she described an odd incident where she took a cheese stick from another woman’s plate while at a local bar. Even though the female reported leaving the woman $2 for the cheese stick she took, the woman allegedly slapped her in the face for stealing her cheese stick. The other party was never identified and no further calls were taken surrounding the incident.

Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 2/11/2018 Town: HOULTON Trooper: TR. SAUCIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier arrested a male subject on a warrant for failure to appear out of Lewiston Court for a 2012 charge of Allowing a minor to possess and consume liquor. The subject is currently a resident of Rhode Island and attempted to cross the border in Houlton when his warrant was discovered.
