The Maine Mall has fired its Santa Claus after complaints from a parent about the rude way her child was treated.

Jessica Mailhiot of Arundel and her 6-year-old daughter, Chantel, went to see Santa this week at the mall in South Portland.

Chantel’s mother told WGME-TV  that when she declined to buy a 20-dollar photo package, the mall Santa was rude to her daughter and would not let her sit on his lap.

She said that after he snubbed her little girl, he even got the name of the toy she wanted wrong.

When Chantel asked for an American Girl doll, the grumpy Santa replied "American football."

Maine Mall officials say they are looking for a jollier Santa and hope to have him in place today.
