Jobs are tough to find as we head into 2025, with the market feeling more competitive than ever. So, when a city close to home ranks as one of the best in the country for job opportunities, it’s a win we’ll gladly take—Maine must be doing something right!

So, given all that, how do we determine which cities in the U.S. are, let’s say, ‘great’ for jobs—let alone the best for finding them?

WalletHub’s report on the ‘Best Cities for Jobs (2025)’ analyzed 182 U.S. cities based on each city’s ‘Job Market Rank’ (weighted more heavily) and ‘Socio-economics Rank.’ Using 31 metrics graded on a 100-point scale, the report calculated a weighted average for each city to determine overall scores and rankings.

Okay, with that established, which city in Maine ranks toward the top of WalletHub’s list for finding a job in 2025?

Again, according to WalletHub’s report on the ‘Best Cities for Jobs (2025),’ Maine’s largest city, Portland, ranks 5th overall. Portland ranks 5th in the ‘Job Market Rank’ and 15th in the ‘Socio-economics Rank.’

But that’s not Maine’s only appearance on the list! Lewiston also made the cut, ranking 35th in the U.S. for the best cities to find a job in 2025.

Specifically, Lewiston ranked 27th in the ‘Job Market Rank’ and 74th in the ‘Socio-economics Rank.’

So, there you have it! Portland, heading into 2025, stands as one of the best cities in America for finding a new job.
