The pandemic-era real estate frenzy may have cooled, but home prices are still climbing in parts of Maine, thanks to the classic supply-and-demand tug-of-war. Buyers are duking it out over a limited inventory, driving up prices in unexpected places.

According to Stacker, home values in the U.S. hit $360,385 in October—up 2.4% from last year. While rising mortgage rates have tempered the market, some Maine towns are still seeing big jumps in home prices. And no, Portland isn’t one of them. Believe it or not, Maine's largest city is way down at #48.

Also according to Stacker, Zillow took data such as typical home value, one-year price change and five-year price change. So, who’s leading the pack? Here’s an interesting rundown of the top five:

5. Rome
Never heard of it? You’re not alone. This small inland town is a quiet escape near Belgrade Lakes, offering picturesque views and an easygoing vibe. It’s a hidden gem—and apparently, the secret’s out.

2. Kennebunkport
No surprise here. Famous for its seaside mansions, shops and as the summer playground of the Bush family, Kennebunkport also holds the title of Maine’s most expensive town to live.

1. Southport
Nestled next to Boothbay Harbor, this small town takes the top spot. It’s a lovely area, no doubt, but seeing it at #1? Honestly, I was a bit surprised. Guess everyone wants a slice of that Boothbay charm without the downtown buzz.

Whether you’re a buyer, seller, or just nosy, these fast-growing spots prove Maine’s housing market is still full of surprises.
