
#6 Maine Thumps #13 UMass 6-2
The #6 Maine Black Bears Men's Hockey Team thumped #13 UMass 6-2 on Thursday night, November 6th peppering the UMass goalie with 54 shots on the night. Josh Nadeau ended the night with a hat trick and an assist.
The game was scoreless for almost 19 minutes in the 1st period, until Maine scored on a short-handed goal, with Nadeau scoring his 1st goal, assisted by Owen Fowler with 1:06 left to play.
It took just 13.4 seconds before Maine made it 2-0, when Brandon Holt scored, assisted by Fowler.
Maine led 2-0 at the end of the 1st period.
Justin Poirier scored with 28 seconds gone in the 2nd period, assisted by Nadeau and Max Scott. It was Poirier's 9th goal of the season..
UMass scored with 6:01 gone, to make it 3-1 Maine.
With 2:06 remaining in the 2nd period, Nadeau scored his 2nd goal of the night, assisted by Brandon Chabrier.
Maine led 4-1 at the end of the 2nd period.
With 9:04 gone in the 3rd period Nadeau completed the hat trick, scoring on a power play.
UMass scored with 9:12 left to play before Maine scored their final goal with 4:36 left to play, when Miguel Marques scored assisted by Owen Fowler (his 3rd assist on the night) and Frank Djurasevic.
Maine was 2-4 on the power play while UMass was 0-4.
Maine outshot UMass 54-16. The Black Bears had 19 shots in the 1st period, 20 in the 2nd period and 15 shots in the final period. Albin Boija had 12 saves in goal for Maine.
Maine is now 6-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Hockey East. UMass is 6-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Hockey East.
