Swarms of bees have been hanging around much more than last year. They are following Mainers everywhere this season and we’re all asking, what’s up with the bee boom?
If you feel like a main character in a new bee movie, raise your hand.
Whether you’ve noticed them the moment you get into your car and then also when you arrive at your destination, it's happening frequently right now.
More and more hoards of bees and hives are being noticed in the state, no matter what the location.
There are a few theories but primarily it’s said to be the drought which has resulted in low nectar. This makes sense, since right now, the conditions are severely dry.
Wells are drying up statewide and it’s being constantly reported on.

Why Are There So Many Bees in Maine Right Now?

Because of the drought, the flowers are sadly producing much less nectar for the bees to pollinate from. That’s when their survival kicks in and they become even more determined little sugar hunters.

They travel far and wide to find food and that includes, your car, your yard, your porch, and yes, even your coffee cup.

And did you know that there is a thing called bee stress? Yes, it’s really. Because of the decrease in flowers providing nectar and loss of habitats, bees are desperate.
Think hangry but with a stinger. If they seem a bit more savage, it’s because they are, according to The Bee Supply.
Are the bees... following me?
According to, yes bees are very attracted to sweetness and since they are desperate to find food, they have been hovering more and more around people.

They are trying to forage and you may be a victim they prey upon. But not because they hate you, it’s survival.
In order to keep them away, don’t dress like a flower, smell too sweet, or carry around honey in your pocket.
Just be cautious and try not to kill too many, we need them, so the world can survive. But no, you’re not crazy, the bees are abound.
