This is the fourth year, the organizations have come together to recognize innovative business founders and owners in Northern Maine.

‘Many Aroostook county residents have dreams about a service, product or manufacturing process that they could develop and create a new business and new employment opportunities for themselves and others, allowing them to stay in the County,’ said LEAD President Jon McLaughlin. ‘Honoring local entrepreneurs gives other folks the confidence to step outside their comfort zone and pursue their dreams.’

The theme for this year’s contest is innovation. Organizers believe innovation is the key to start a new business, whether farmers are finding new ways to harvest potatoes or small businesses embracing the digital world.

‘What we have seen through the stories of all of our nominees, since we first launched this project in 2009, is that these business leaders and innovators are making it happen here in the County,’ said LEAD Treasurer Jason Parent.

Applications are accepted until March 27, 2013 and applicants can apply by visiting either LEAD's web site or Momentum Aroostook’s web site.

A committee of six judges will select the 2013 honoree, who will receive a check for $500 and a plaque.

‘We are hoping that the nominees will inspire others to utilize their skills and creativity here in the County,’ said NMCC President Tim Crowley.
