Do You Know Which NFL Players with Maine Ties Were Selected on Draft Day?
The state of Maine is not known for producing NFL talent.
In fact, a 2024 study of NFL rosters showed that just two players from Maine played in the league that season.
But, Mainers are always proud when someone with ties to the state makes it to the highest level of a professional sport, even if they didn't grow up here.
Below is a list of some of those players.
It includes 21st-century players with Maine ties who made it to the NFL and were selected on draft day as well.
For some of these players, their only connection is the college team they played for: the UMaine Black Bears. A few others were either born in Maine, played their high school ball in Maine, or both.
Some players made it to the NFL but went undrafted out of UMaine, the state's only Division 1 school.
That includes Jovan Belcher, Stephen Cooper, Mike DeVito, Phil McGeoghan, Brandon McGowan, Matthew Mulligan, Montell Owens, Justin Perillo and Patrick Ricard.
This inspiration for this list, of course, in the 2025 NFL Draft, which is taking place in Green Bay Wisconsin.
Friday night, the draft opened with quarterback Cam Ward going 1 overall to Titans.
He was followed by Travis Hunter (Jaguars), Abdul Carter (Giants), Will Campbell (Patriots) and Mason Graham (Browns).
The draft consists of 7 rounds and 257 selections.
The final pick in the draft is known as "Mr. Irrelevant."
UMaine actually has a former player with that title, and he's included in the list below.
This works as a pretty slick transition into the list, so let's get into it.
