A video project that began last May produced by the BeaconTV Students in Houlton debuted during an assembly last Friday at RSU29.

The video features family members of students and local community members discussing breast cancer. Holly Hodgkins, school nurse for RSU29, approached the BeaconTV students last spring with the idea of making a video to help spread breast cancer awareness.

According to Carmen McGuire, BeaconTV Teacher, when the students began working on the project and released an email looking for community members to interview they soon found themselves overwhelmed with responses for those willing to participate.

BeaconTV students Autumn London, Isaac Morse, Lexi Bartlett and Nick Guy did the best they could to meet the demand while still managing time restraints in order to complete the video for breast cancer awareness month. McGuire told me Nick Guy was the backbone of the video project and handled all of the video editing, which was no small task.

As part of the assembly last Friday, self breast exam daisy wheels from the Get in Touch Foundation were made available for students grades 5-12.

The BeaconTV class wishes to thank the following for sharing their stories: Susan Pierce, Janet Geiger, Holly McPartland, Katelynn Wiggins, and Holly Hodgkins.

The video will be featured on the YouTube Channel as well as BeaconTV channel 13 through Polaris Cable later today.
