The home and business were located at 3789 Route 122 along the Canada-U.S. border, which is about 40 kilometers southwest of Woodstock, New Brunswick.

The Canadian Red Cross has stepped in to help the family with emergency lodging and purchases of clothing, food and personal-care items for a woman and her two adult sons.

The family expects it will be a day or two before insurance adjusters visit the scene to assess losses.

The trio was not hurt but firefighters say a number of dogs died in the fire.
