Here Are Some Ideas For What To Give Maine Moms This Christmas?
Let's face it unless your mom has something she's wild about or likes to collect, she's probably one of the toughest people on your holiday gift list.
What does she really want? What does she really need? What would mean the most to her?
Pulling both from my experience of being a mom four times over and from countless talks with moms all over the place, I have compiled a list of some thoughtful ways to show the mom in your life some love this holiday season.
1.) Offer Mom a helping hand.
While coupon books for free hugs or back rubs are adorable, if we're being honest, they often end up taking up space in a pile somewhere, completely useless. The thought is cute, but it's not really practical. Most mom's I've ever talked with would appreciate a helping hand.
Whether it's offering to cook a meal, clean a room, fold laundry or even just babysit for an hour so she can nap, giving Mom the gift of help is something she will always appreciate.
2.) Hook Her Up With Her Favorite Beverage
Most moms I know get through any day with either coffee, tea, wine,, or water. Gift certificates to a mom's favorite coffee spot or wine of the month, or maybe a sweet new water bottle are inexpensive gifts that go a long way to brightening a mom's day.
Often moms won't spend money on themselves or feel immense "mom guilt" when they spend on something that's not necessarily a "necessity." So giving them a way to treat themselves with something that brings them a little bit of comfort and joy is a great way to spread that cheer throughout the year.
3.) Make her feel pretty.
When you're running ragged after kiddos, glamming it up is a luxury!
A gift certificate to get Mom a haircut and color, or a makeover (add in a massage or a manicure for bonus points) and you'll not only be making her outsides look good, you'll be giving her a major boost of confidence. And when Mom feels good about herself, everyone benefits!
4.) Capture what she loves in photos, and make Mom a book of memories.
Moms take a million pictures of their kids, and often of their spouses with their kids. But aside from the awkward selfie angle, moms are very seldom in these photographs themselves. So either start snapping some shots of your mom or maybe even book a photo session for her.
Make a mental note, throughout the year, to catch the mom you love in action with her kids, or in moments you notice how awesome she is. Then put those moments together in a photo book. And prepared for the waterworks and hugs.
5.) Clean Mom's Car
She likely spends the day hauling stuff or kids around. There's a good chance there are crumbs, stuck-together gummy snacks, and hidden spills throughout her vehicle.
Having someone else vacuum, shampoo, wipe down, and wax the inside and the outside of Mom's ride is always an appreciated gesture, mostly because that means there's one less thing she needs to clean.
6.) Give the mom in your life the gift of your time and attention.
My guess is that if you asked a room full of moms what the best present they could get this holiday season they would say your presence.
A few of the moms I spoke with said they wished someone would give them a gift certificate for a once-a-month maid, meal, or sitter. When you get to the heart of that, what moms are asking for is time; either time to do stuff with their kids or with their spouses, or by themselves! If you can help facilitate them having that time, that can be the thing that gets them through that month--the light at the end of the tunnel!
