Take two big spoonfuls and call me in the morning. An Ohio-based ice cream maker has introduced a new frozen treat that’s specially formulated to relieve flu symptoms.

“Influenza Sorbet” includes ginger, cayenne pepper, honey, lemon and a generous dose of bourbon that will clear the sinuses and soothe scratchy throats.

Jeni Britton Bauer, owner of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, told the New York Post that her sorbet is derived from an old family remedy. She said many people have told her “it's the only thing that makes them feel better."

Bauer said one helpful ingredient is a small dash of pectin, the same kind used in throat lozenges.  But she admits, “It’s not a miracle. It’s an at-home remedy — like chicken soup.”

The Post said health officials certainly aren't calling Influenza Sorbet a cure for influenza and still recommend a flu shot. I’ll take the sorbet, thank you. Even at 12 dollars a pint.
