What an honor it is to carry the flag at the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics.

That honor went to Maine native Frank Del Duca, who was chosen to lead his bobsled team at the Olympic Games in Italy, according to WMTW.

The entire state is celebrating this and cheering the incredible athlete on.

Frank is from Bethel, and will share the spotlight with speed skater Erin Jackson, who made history as the very first Black woman to win a gold medal in an individual Winter Olympic event back in 2022.

Believe it or not, Frank has also been to the Olympics before!

He previously competed in Beijing back in 2022 and piloted his bobsled team at the 2025 IBSF World Championship in New York, finished fourth in both two-man and four-man events! This year, aiming for gold in Italy!

As per the article, the Olympic Committee has now required each country to choose two flag bearers, one male and one female to promote gender equality.

Check out the moment he was given the honor of holding the flag from News Center Maine YouTube below.

During the parade of nations you will see Frank and Erin leading during the Parade of Nations with the flags.

The Opening Ceremonies are themed, "Harmony" this year and will air on NBC, Friday February 6th at 2pm.

They are expecting 60,000 attendees and for Maine fans, seeing a hometown face at the center of the Olympics is an extremely proud moment.

Bringing Maine to the forefront of the Olympics and spreading our states ability to produce world class athletes!

After it was announced, Frank said "It's the upmost honor" and went on to say that because the games are being held in Italy,  "It means even more." Nearly everyone in my family is of Italian descent, there is no greater honor than leading Team USA into the Opening Ceremony in Italy. It feels like a bridge between my family's heritage and the country I’m so proud to serve." WMTW

We will all be glued to the screen cheering on Frank Del Duca as he represents Maine at the Olympic Games in Italy!
