Easton Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash
Maine State Police say a 62-year-old Easton man died Wednesday afternoon after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a minivan.
Police and emergency crews responded to the crash on Route 10 in Easton at approximately 3:45 p.m. Troopers learned that a motorcycle operated by Vance Smith of Easton was overtaking a vehicle that was making a right turn onto the Richardson Road.
Police say the vehicle making a right turn was following a Toyota minivan, operated by 60-year-old Mary Johnson of Easton. Johnson was turning left into J&B Trailer Park as Smith was overtaking the right-turning vehicle.
The motorcycle struck the minivan and Smith was thrown from the bike. State Police say Smith was not wearing a helmet. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. Johnson was not injured.
Aroostook County Sheriff's Deputies, Easton Fire Department and Crown Ambulance assisted on site. Route 10 was shut down for about 2 1/2 hours while troopers reconstructed the accident scene. The investigation is ongoing.
