A sheriff’s cruiser was damaged after pursuing a vehicle driving at “criminal speed” in Levant on Friday morning.

Driver Fled after Deputy Chased Vehicle

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said a red Kia Soul sedan was driving at ”criminal speed” on Route 222 around 7:15 am.

Car Nearly Crashed with Oncoming Vehicle

When the Deputy turned to pursue the car, the driver made a left turn and almost collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Fleeing Driver Drove around Residence

The driver tried to flee and drove into a private driveway and around the residence.

Cruiser Crashed into a Ditch

“When the deputy attempted to return to the roadway, his cruiser slid across the grass lawn and into a ditch,” said the Sheriff’s Office.

Driver Fled at “Erratic Speed”

The driver fled and was located by another Deputy. “The sedan continued to drive at an erratic speed, but it was not further pursued,” said PCSO.

Cruiser Damaged during Chase

The cruiser had front end damage from the crash. No injuries were reported.
