The Food and Drug Administration on Monday warned that many popular brands of dog food have up to 70 times the safe levels of vitamin D and could kill the dogs who eat them.

The FDA said that manufacturers of about 11 different brands of dog food are recalling their own product and are advising dog owners to check the label before feeding any dry food to their dogs.

Specifically, ELM Pet Foods has announced that they are voluntarily recalling Elm Chicken and Chickpea Recipe Dog Food from shelves across the country, as they could contain high levels of vitamin D which could kill the dogs.

Here are the UPC codes of products they are recalling. Specifically, those that have been manufactured between February 25, 2018, and October 31, 2018:

If you have purchased any of these brands, the FDA is advising that you stop feeding them to your dog immediately and advise that the product should be disposed of or returned to the retailer for a full refund.

The FDA stated that there may be more brands of dog food in the recall as many retail chains buy products from a contract manufacturer and sell them under different brand names.
