According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety,  48-year-old Robert Doody, from Caribou and Washburn was found last Thursday. He was rushed to Houlton Regional Hospital, then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

State Police detectives said the man had used a bed sheet to hang himself.  The State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death to be suicide.

Doody was serving time for importation of drugs and for violating probation. The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office is working with the Maine Departments of Corrections to review jail procedures.

As is standard with all deaths of inmates, State Police investigated the case.
