Common is making huge strides outside of his music when it comes to his acting career, and now the rapper is starring in another major film. The Nobody's Smiling MC has signed on to star in the upcoming Megan Leavey movie, which follows the true story of a Marine corporal and her military dog named Rex.

While speaking to Page Six on why he decided to join the cast of the touching film, Common, who plays a tough military sergeant in the motion picture, commented on being intrigued by the plot's "love story."

"“I have to say that when I took on this script, this is not a war story this is a love story," Common said. “The lead character did not come in as a hero. She was going through some troubles and she joined the military. So her going into the war with a dog taught her about love . . . I gained a different amount of respect for the military and, of course, Megan," he continued.

The premiere of the film took place at Yankee Stadium this week, and was attended by veterans and families whose children are currently being treated at Sloan Kettering. During the premiere, Common took the stage to perform a slew of hits including "The Light," "Glory," and "I Used To Love H.E.R." He even performed a special freestyle to Leavey, herself, after bringing her on stage.
