A 24-year old man is behind bars after he crashed his car into a building in Van Buren Sunday evening, following a police chase.

The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Michael DeLena was traveling south on Main Street in Van Buren around 6 p.m. when he observed a car heading towards him at a high rate of speed.

Radar confirmed that the Subaru hatchback was traveling at 85 miles per hour in a posted 30 mile per hour zone in a highly populated area.

The car was being pursued by a Van Buren Police cruiser with emergency lights and sirens activated. Deputy DeLena pursued the car for a brief period until it went around a curve on Champlain Street. The Subaru went off the roadway, launched into the air and struck a building owned by Marquis Farms of Van Buren.

The Deputy was able to immediately take the driver into custody.

Twenty-four-year-old Lance Labreck of Hamlin was arrested and transported to the Aroostook County Jail. Labreck was not injured in the crash.
