On July 13, 2017, the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office was called to a report of a camp being vandalized on Duck Cove Road in Cross Lake.

Deputy Sheriff Corey Saucier responded and found that two other camps in the immediate area were vandalized as well.

Deputy Saucier, Sgt. Matt Cummings and Detective Peter Johnson processed the three camps, collecting a great deal of physical evidence.

Based upon that evidence and a large number of interviews, Deputy Sheriffs developed probable cause to arrest a neighboring camp owner, Sylvia Hamilton, 51, of Cross Lake. Sylvia was arrested on July 26 and is charged with burglary and two counts of aggravated criminal mischief; all of which are felony offenses.

Hamilton is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on September 1st in Fort Kent. Nothing was stolen, but the camps were heavily damaged, to include broken windows, destruction of personal property and spray painted graffiti.

Not all of the repair estimates are in yet, but the Sheriff's Office estimates total damages will exceed $10,000.
