The Aid for Kids annual Educational Fair will be held on Saturday, September 30 from 10 until 2 at the Millar Civic Center in Houlton. The event is free.

Once again this year, Bess the Book Bus, a mobile literacy outreach from Florida will be stopping in Houlton as a part of her national book tour providing new free books for children of all ages.

Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause offers free, pre-packaged ice cream in exchange for voluntary donations to help raise money for charities.

Mad Science of Maine will have two science shows: “Ramp It Up Energy Show” at 11 a.m. and “Up, Up and Away” at 1 p.m. Shows are fun and educational for all ages.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office & Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office is offering Iris Scan, a biometric recognition service that is used for the purpose of identifying and locating missing children or vulnerable adults. The human iris is absolutely unique, even between twins. The scan is performed by looking into a computer and takes about 15 seconds. This new technology can identify a child within seconds. Please stop by for your child’s free iris scan.

The Texting Simulator from the Maine Department of Public Safety will be available to help reinforce the importance of not texting and driving. The simulator is a teaching tool that allows the participant to “drive” and try to text at the same time on a computer to see the consequences of texting and driving.

Maine Forest Service will be onsite with their helicopter that families can tour and find out about the mission of the Maine Forest Service.

Maine Warden Service will have Safari in a Box– this hands on learning project utilizing pelts and animal tracks.

Sara McQuarrie from Sneakin’ in Science  – a fun hands on science activity.

The Maine Fire Marshall’s office will have fire education information.
