Take the ‘Cure for Wellness’ Super Bowl Spot and Call Me in the Morning
Here’s the best movie trailer of the Super Bowl.
It’s for Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness, with Dane DeHaan investigating a wellness retreat in the mountains. (SPOILER ALERT: This place will not be good for his personal wellness.) Aping the style of the sort of prescription drug ads that often dominate broadcast television (especially when old people are known to be watching), it starts off describing a magic drug then lists all of its side effects. And keeps listing, and keeps listing, and keeps listing, along with disturbing images from the film, until it’s clear the cure in this case is quite a bit worse than the disease. It’s a really smart idea perfectly executed.
And in case you thought A Cure for Wellness was just a bunch of frightening images, here’s the full plot synopsis for the film:
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.
A Cure for Wellness will feature Dane DeHaan, Jason Isaacs, and Mia Goth and creep its way into theaters on February 17, 2017.
