The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) oversees home ownership, low-income housing assistance, fair housing laws, homelessness, aid for distressed neighborhoods, and housing development, among other housing related issues in the United States. Part of HUD is listing for sale special HUD program homes that are more affordable than other homes on the market.

These homes could have been acquired by a number of methods, but ultimately they are put on the market for bid and purchase with loan programs that make it possible for people who otherwise may not have been able to purchase a home through conventional loan programs achieve their home ownership goal.

Of course, these homes may need extensive renovations to bring them back to live able conditions, but luckily, loan programs like 203K allow for renovation expenses.

These five properties are just a few of the homes available through HUD across Maine.
