Both North and South bound lanes in Bridgewater were closed for several hours Friday afternoon as paramedics and fire officials responded to a three-vehicle accident on Route 1.

At the busiest travel time of the day, officials estimated that both lanes of Route 1 would remain completely impassible for at least 90 minutes as emergency crews dealt with the situation. According to the Bridgewater Fire Department, traffic was still backed up for several miles in both directions as of 6:00pm Eastern time.

Details on the occupants of the vehicles or the cause of the accident are not yet available. Police and Fire Departments cautioned all motorists to take it slow, and expect whiteout conditions after large snowstorms, like the storm that brought up to 12 inches of snow to the area earlier this week.
