A 25-year-old man was shot and injured Saturday after he raised a firearm at a Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy in Stonington.

Threatened to Burn Down Family House

The Hancock Sheriff's Office said Erik-Thor Himpler had been threatening to burn down the family’s house on Weed Field Road. His mother called 911 around 3:50 pm.

Raised Firearm at Deputy

Deputy John Stanley arrived on the scene and found Himpler walking on the road. Himpler refused to stop and “raised a firearm he pulled from his waistband. Deputy Stanley then shot Himpler,” said the Sheriff’s Office.

Taken to the Hospital with Injuries

Deputies provided first-aid until paramedics arrived. Himpler was transported to Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital and then taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. His injuries were non-life threatening.

Use of Deadly Force

As standard protocol, Deputy Stanley was placed on administrative leave while the use of deadly force is investigated. Maine State Police assisted with the case.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
