Heartbreak is a killer...maybe of albums, where Zayn Malik is concerned.

The "PILLOWTALK" singer, who confirmed he'd split with longtime girlfriend Gigi Hadid earlier this month, may have put his second LP on hold while he recovers from heartbreak, according to The Star. The site says that Malik has spent months fine-tuning songs that celebrate Gigi, and now that she's no longer a part of Malik's life, he's having second thoughts.

“During most of that time he was completely head over heels in love with Gigi so that’s what he wrote about," a source says. "There’s lots of songs about their love, passion and sensuality. But some of the songs are more painful to him than loving now."

“Even though the break-up is being touted as a mutual decision he is heartbroken and wants to use that as inspiration," the source adds. “He’s an incredibly deep character and wants to write new music about the split to help him process his feelings.”

Malik explained his breakup on Twitter by noting: "Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving, and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and friend. She has such an incredible soul. I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all."

It was just days ago that Malik shared a mysterious teaser on Twitter that featured the words "Coming Soon." And earlier in March, he confirmed to antsy Twitter followers that "albums been done. Just working on my videos ladies calm it, calm it."
