Since I got my iPhone 6S nearly two years ago I've been dealing with random shutdown issues and terrible battery life. I chalked it up to technology or the few hundred times I've clumsily dropped my phone on various hard surfaces.

Turns out, a certain range of iPhone 6/6S phones that were manufactured between September and October 2015 were recalled for unexpected shutdown issues. Unexpected shutdown issues? That's precisely what I've been dealing with since I got my phone.

I checked with Apple, and my phone is eligible for replacement. Here's how to check if your phone is eligible for repair or replacement.

Check Your iPhone's Recall Status

  1. Visit Apple's Recall site for Unexpected Shutdown Issues.
  2. Find your phone's serial number under Settings > General > About.
  3. Enter serial number on the site.
  4. If your iPhone is eligible, schedule a replacement or repair option.
