The blaze was reported around 2:45 Monday afternoon on the Lockhart Mill Road in Carlow, New Brunswick.  Florenceville-Bristol Fire Chief Andrew Cougle tells us the 2-story home was fully involved when firefighters arrived. Crews contended with winds and cold temperatures as they battled the fire.  Bath Fire Department provided mutual aid.

Cougle said no one was home when the fire broke out. The couple was returning from Fredericton at the time after taking their infant daughter to see a specialist.

The home was a complete loss, Cougle said. The cause has not been determined. The family's dogs perished in the fire.

Canadian Red Cross volunteers met with the couple Tuesday to arrange for help with clothing, food, and baby items.  The young family is staying with a relative for the time being.

Cougle said the Lions Club and a local church are among those who stepped forward to help the couple and their baby girl.
