Former University of Maine basketball player Liz Wood was nominated by the America East conference for its ‘Woman of the Year’ award.

Wood was nominated among nine others by the conference for excellence in service, leadership, athletics, and academics during their college careers.  The honor is for athletes that have at least a 2.5 grade point average and will receive an undergraduate degree from their respective schools by the conclusion of the summer 2016 term.

The ten finalists will be narrowed down to three on Monday, May 23rd, with the winner being named on June 7th.  The representative from the conference will then be sent to the NCAA ‘Woman of the Year’ award for voting nationwide.

Wood made the Dean’s List in every single semester at UMaine and was the SAAC President.  In addition to those accolades, she also was on the Honors College Advisory Board and part of the AE Helping Hands Team in 2015.  Wood averaged 11.5 points per game during her career with the Black Bears and averaged 33 minutes per contest.
