A Limington woman is facing charges, including OUI, for nearly hitting a police officer while speeding away from an accident scene.

The incident started with a driver calling police to report a pickup truck that was being driven erratically on Route 35 in Standish, just after 6:30 Friday night. An officer approached the vehicle on foot when it was stopped at the closed accident scene of a burning car.

That's when police say 41-year-old Misty Romero hit the gas and sped away, nearly hitting the officer, and striking several vehicles, including two Standish fire vehicles, as she fled the scene. Police gave chase and the woman continued on, despite the fact that her truck had lost its front driver's side wheel. Sparks flew as she drove at speeds up to 85 miles per hour for more than three miles. The truck finally stopped on Route 25 in Gorham.

WGME-TV reports Romero and her passenger were detained, initially, but the passenger was released with no charges. Romero was taken to Cumberland County Jail, charged with Eluding An Officer and Operating While Under the Influence. Bail was set at $1,500 with an eight hour hold order until she could be released.
