The West District RCMP was called to Rivière-à-la-Truite Road in Saint-Jacques around 1 a.m., according to Constable Steve Gagnon of the Grand Falls Detachment.

Police say a vehicle went off the road and ended up on its roof partially submerged in the river.  The driver, a 35-year-old woman from Saint-Jacques, was trapped inside.  Emergency personnel removed her from the car but she was later confirmed dead at the Edmundston Regional Hospital.

A male passenger managed to get out of the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.  The woman's family has asked that her name not be released.
