Melissa St. Pierre, the youth services librarian at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle, recently visited preschool students at the Wintergreen Arts Center.

While there, the preschoolers were able to sign up for their very own library cards. St. Pierre also talked about the local public library, and read to the students a book about snowmen.

Lisa Brewer who co-teaches Wintergreen’s creative preschool, said why the Art Center invited Librarian St. Pierre. “We created our own little library at Wintergreen to help our students experience the joy and care of books.”

St. Pierre was excited about her visit to Wintergreen, saying libraries "offer a safe space for children to learn, explore and become more confident in their literary development.” She added that kids with a library card learn responsibility and develop a sense of independence.
