Maine State Police are investigating a case of criminal mischief in St. Agatha, where it appears someone tried to sabotage a utility pole just north of Long Lake.

On Thursday, Emera Maine reported damage to one of its utility poles at the intersection of the Cleveland and Guerrette Roads.  Someone apparently cut a notch out of the pole with a chainsaw in an attempt to have it fall over at a later time, Sgt. Brian Harris said Friday evening.

It is unknown when the damage occurred but it appears in may have been recently.

The damage was discovered before the pole fell over and Emera replaced the pole without any disruption to service in the area, Harris said.

State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the vandalism or has any information on the crime such as a suspicious vehicle or person in the area to step forward.

If you have any information, please contact Trooper Corey Hafford at the Maine State Police Barracks in Houlton at 532-5400.
