The US Coast Guard has responded to a viral video of four girls straddling a navigation buoy in Portland Harbor.

The video, originally posted by Portland Old Port, shows the girls climbing onto the buoy, causing it to list and tip almost completely over. One of them even flips off another boat for good measure.

In a comment on that original video, the Coast Guard calls their stunt "extremely dangerous and illegal."

US Coast Guard Sector Northern New England: "This is extremely dangerous and illegal. If the Coast Guard receives a call regarding persons on any Aid to Navigation, we will respond and assume you are in distress. Search and Rescue hours will be spent responding to persons on Aids, potentially diverting assistance away from those who might actually be in distress. Safety is our priority! Please do not encourage the ones you love to participate in this activity."
