Westbrook native Trevor Bates was drafted in the seventh round by the Indianapolis Colts at pick number 239 of the NFL Draft.

Bates played for UMaine and was an All-CAA first team selection his senior season with the Black Bears and recorded a team high seven and a half sacks during the campaign.  Bates becomes the first UMaine player to be selected in the NFL Draft since the Minnesota Vikings took Kendall James in the sixth round in 2014.

During his career playing for Maine, Bates recorded 207 tackles, forced five fumbles, three interceptions, and 19 sacks.  He also becomes the 16th Black Bear to be selected in the NFL Draft.  Teammate Bruce Johnson was not drafted and becomes an undrafted free agent who is free to sign with any team.
