The UMaine men's basketball team opened its season in Blackburg, Virginia Friday night against the Hokies of Virginia Tech and the Black Bears lost 80-67.

Junior transfer Wes Myers led Maine with 18 points.

The Hokies had four players in double-digit scoring, led by Zach LeDay with 20.

The Black Bears trailed by 10 points at the half, shooting just 37% from the field.

With three minutes to go in the game, Virginia Tech held a 25 point lead. The Bears went on a 12-0 run down the stretch to make the final score much better.

UMaine plays at Longwood University(Virginia) Sunday afternoon.
