State Police responded to a report of a pair of crashes in the area of Soucy Hill around 4:45 a.m.  Corporal Chuck Michaud said 18-year-old Greyden Pelletier of Fort Kent was driving south on Route 11 when a moose ran into the roadway and struck the front of his 2004 GMC truck.

The moose smashed the windshield of the truck and ended up in the northbound lane.

As Pelletier pulled over to the side of the road, 19-year-old Shawn Gantnier of Madawaska, who was traveling north, came around a slight bend in the road and was unable to avoid striking the moose. Gantnier ran over the moose that Pelletier had just struck, totaling his 2005 Toyota Camry.

Neither Gantnier or Pelletier was injured in the crash, Michaud said.  Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
