The West District RCMP is investigating a single-vehicle crash just below Plaster Rock late Wednesday night that sent a man and woman to hospital with serious injuries.

Police were called to the crash on Highway 109 in Three Brooks shortly before 10:30 p.m., according to Constable Mark Walsh of the Woodstock Detachment. Investigators say the SUV left the road and struck two telephone poles. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. It appeared that neither person was wearing a seatbelt.

A 32-year-old man from Plaster Rock, and a 24-year-old woman from Oakland, N.B., were transported to hospital and both remain in critical condition, police said.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing with the assistance of an RCMP collision reconstructionist.
