Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a car went off Highway 117 and struck a power pole, according to Corporal Mario Maillet of the Southeast District RCMP.

Two men, a 35-year-old from Pointe-Sapin who was driving the car, and a 35-year-old passenger from Bay du Vin, were killed instantly. They were the only ones in the vehicle, Maillet said.

Police say speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash. The Northeast District Traffic Analyst attended the scene, and police and the coroner are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information on this fatal crash is asked to contact the Richibucto RCMP at (506) 523-4611.
