Two Maine Teens Die Near Bangor
UPDATE MONDAY 3 PM: The driver has been identified as 18-year old Tyler Babcock of Bangor. His passenger was 17-year-old Alex Chabre, also of Bangor. Speed and alcohol are being investigated as potential contributing factors.
On Sunday, July 17th at 6 a.m., the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 15, near the Bangor and Glenburn town line. Sheriff Troy Morton says a 4-door Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Route 15, before it lost control striking several trees and splitting the vehicle in half. Both Gleburn-area teenage occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The fatal crash remains under investigation and no immediate causes have been determined. Route 15 in the area of the crash was shut down from until 10:30 a.m.
Sheriff Morton says the names of those involved are not excepted to be released today, as next of kin are still being notified.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Maine State Police, Glenburn Fire Department, G&H Ambulance, and Bangor Public Works.
