Maine State Police say speed is the cause of a one-vehicle crash Saturday in Prospect that killed two men and critically injured a third.

The crash took place on the North Searsport Road in Prospect about 5:30 pm. September 3. Police say the vehicle was a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup which struck a utility pole and rolled over several times before coming to rest upright.

59-year-old John Moriarty from Bangor, 35-year-old Brad Pomeroy of Searsport and 31-year-old Adam Littlefield of Winterport were ejected from the vehicle.

Moriarty and Pomeroy died at the scene. Littlefield was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and is in critical condition with multiple injuries.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene. Troopers have not yet determined who was driving.
