Corporal Kyle Pelletier was assisting road crews who had closed down the passing lane for repairs, according to State Police spokesman Steve McCausland. Pelletier was sitting in his cruiser with his emergency lights activated when he was struck by a car driven by 57-year-old Deanna Marshall of Norway.

The crash took place about 9 pm. Troopers said Marshall’s car drifted into the passing lane and sideswiped the cruiser.

Trooper Pelletier sustained an injury to his back and was treated and released from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Marshall was apparently not injured but was taken to Maine Medical Center so her condition could be assessed. Her great-grandchild, who was sitting in the rear seat of the car also was not injured, McCausland said. The child is under the age of two.

Marshall’s car was demolished while the cruiser–a 2014 Ford Interceptor–sustained several thousand dollars in damage, McCausland said.

Police say the woman has not been charged at this point, but may be charged once toxicology tests are completed.
