Stetson University formally introduced former UMaine baseball coach Steve Trimper as their new head coach in a press conference on Monday.

Trimper, who had spent the past eleven seasons with the Black Bears in Orono, left the program over the weekend to take the head coaching position with the Hatters.  Longtime coach Pete Dunn recently announced his retirement, and Trimper was selected as coach after an interview process with the university.

The coach will begin work formally at Stetson on January 2, 2017 and signed a four year contract.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the school.  Trimper compiled a 309-292-2 record with UMaine and took the Black Bears to the NCAA Regional twice, in 2006 and 2011.

Associate head coach Nick Derba was named the interim head coach by UMaine on Saturday morning and will coach the team through the upcoming 2017 season.  The university said they will have a nation-wide search for the position at the end of the season.
