Opening statements were delivered Tuesday after jury selection was completed in the trial of Jesse Marquis in Aroostook County.

The prosecutor says Marquis stabbed 31-year-old Amy Theriault multiple times before shooting her with a hunting rifle.

Police say the victim had broken up with him and was staying with friends when Marquis showed up at her home in St. Francis on May 31, 2014. Marquis was captured in June 2014 with help from a bloodhound from New Hampshire's Stafford County Sheriff's Department.
