Listen to Tori Amos’ ‘Reindeer King’ From Her Forthcoming Album ‘Native Invader’

Tori Amos has released a third song from her upcoming release Native Invader. You can hear the album's seven-minute piano opener, "Reindeer King," in the new lyric video above, which follows on the singles "Up the Creek" and "Cloud Riders," which she also released this summer.

Amos also debuted the song for a live audience on Program 3 Polskiego Radia, a Polish radio station yesterday, Brooklyn Vegan reported.

"For years, people had told me about the magical atmosphere that happens when bodies of water freeze over and hundreds of people ice skate for miles and miles and miles,” Amos told W magazine," referring to the final verse of the song. "You know that I would skate / Skate all the way / Just to hold your hand / To take away your pain / You know that I would skate / from Scandinavia / all the way to the moons / Of Jupiter with you / I've just come from the Reindeer King," Amos sings.

"I had to go into the wilderness for that one ["Reindeer King"]. I was learning about the [Alberto] Behar probes, and hearing about the ice sheet in Greenland and what was happening there," Amos told PopMatters. "That influenced the song's imagery. It's a record that's very much about bringing elements into balance, about creation with opposing forces, whether that's at a macro, environmental level or on a more personal one, as on 'Chocolate Song.'"

Native Invader is her 15th studio album, and her first since 2014's Unrepentant Geraldines. The record, she has previously said, was borne in her attempt to reconnect with the history of the ancestry of the maternal side of her family in the Smoky Mountains.

Just ahead of the record's Sept. 8 release, Amos will begin an extensive world tour, which kicks off Sept. 6 in Ireland. She returns for North American tour dates on Oct. 24, which continue into December.
