This is probably the closest we’ll ever get to a Marvel and Star Wars crossover: Tom Holland, aka your new Spider-Man, is in talks to join Daisy Ridley, aka Rey, in Chaos Walking — the upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller based on the best-selling YA novel by Patrick Ness. In related news, maybe the real post-apocalyptic future is one in which all teen movie franchises are based on post-apocalyptic YA books; time is a flat circle and the apocalypse has already happened and we are all already dead. Happy Monday!

THR reports that Holland is in talks for a lead role opposite Ridley in Chaos Walking, set in a post-apocalyptic future (obviously) in which a very deadly and impressively selective germ has wiped out the entire female population, and all living beings can hear the thoughts of each other — which does not sound problematic at all. Ridley is set to play the role of the last living human girl, who is discovered by a young man after he’s forced to leave home with his dog. Holland is in talks to play the young man.

Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman will direct Chaos Walking based on a script by Money Monster scribe Jamie Linden; Charlie Kaufman (yes, as in that Charlie Kaufman) worked on an earlier draft. Though Liman exited Channing Tatum’s long-developing Gambit movie, the director has kept plenty busy: In addition to directing the upcoming Tom Cruise action-drama American Made (previously titled Mena), Liman is set to helm Justice League Dark for WB based on Guillermo del Toro’s script, and recently wrapped production on the sniper thriller The Wall.

Holland recently signed on to star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in historical drama The Current War. The young actor also completed filming on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which hits theaters in July 2017; he’s contracted for two Spider-Man sequels and two more appearances in the MCU.
