While their backgrounds, ages and reasons for being adult learners are varied, these individuals came together to persevere to change their lives for the better. Whether their goal was to find a job, read a phone book, or set a good example for their children or grandchildren, they have all made learning a priority.

According to the 2003 International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey, 56 per cent of New Brunswick's working age population ranked lower than level 3, suggesting they do not have the literacy skills required to meet the demands of life and work in Canada's modern industrialized economy.

The Literacy Coalition of New Brunswick provides leadership to advance literacy, lifelong learning and essential skills for all citizens through partnerships and collaboration with government, educational institutions, business, labor, community organizations and individuals.
