Political experts are speculating that Tuesday’s voter turnout out could possibly be the highest turnout ever for the state. But why?

Currently President Obama has a comfortable seven point lead according to the latest voting polls; however, some Republicans are hoping to take away one of the four electoral seats away from Obama. Maine is one of two states that still uses congressional district method of distributing electoral votes.

On Tuesday, Mainers will also cast a vote on the same-sex marriage referendum, which can be another reason for the high voter turnout. Question 1 on the ballot will read: ‘Do you want to allow the State of Maine to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples?’

In 2008, President Obama won Maine with 57% of the votes, however, the economy has been slow to recover, which has led a lot voters across the nation to question his decisions.
