A fire Wednesday morning destroyed the main production building at Northeast Pellets in Ashland and was also threatening a silo full of wood pellets.

Matt Bell of Northeast Pellets, LLC  was recently named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council.

Two and a half years after building a 4-million dollar biomass plant at the former site of the Fort Kent Armory, officials with the University of Maine at Fort Kent say the college and SAD 27 have been well-serviced. But the need for pellets is sometimes less than at other times.

ASHLAND, Maine (AP) — The University of Maine System disputes a claim by a wood pellet manufacturer that the company is cutting back operations in part because of the loss of University of Maine at Fort Kent as a client.

An Aroostook County manufacturer of wood pellets is cutting back production because of the mild winter and the loss of a key client.
